In Uzbekistan there are two main routes to an English certificate: the international IELTS and the national Multilevel. Which to choose depends on your goal.
In short
| IELTS | Multilevel | |
|---|---|---|
| Recognition | International: universities abroad, visas, jobs | Mainly within Uzbekistan |
| Speaking | A conversation with a live examiner | At a computer, answers recorded |
| Result | Band 0-9 | 0-75 per skill and a CEFR level |
| Price | Usually higher | Usually lower |
| How often | Several dates a month | Every month |
Prices and dates change: check the official websites for exact details.
When IELTS
- You plan to study abroad or apply for a scholarship.
- You need a language certificate for a visa or international work.
- An employer asks for IELTS specifically.
When Multilevel
- You need a certificate within Uzbekistan: admission, work, benefits.
- An organisation asks for a CEFR level (B1, B2, C1).
- Price and frequent test dates matter to you.
The Speaking difference in practice
In IELTS you talk to an examiner: they can repeat a question, you can ask for clarification, and the conversation is live. In Multilevel you are alone with a microphone and the time is strict. Some people find a live conversation easier, others a screen. The core of preparation is the same: speak a lot, out loud.

Frequently asked questions
Are IELTS and Multilevel scores equivalent?
Both are linked to the CEFR scale, but official equivalence depends on what each organisation requires. Ask the place you are applying to which certificate it accepts.
