How the overall band is worked out
The four skill bands are added and divided by four. The result is rounded to the nearest half band, with quarters going up:
- a mean ending in .25 goes up to the next half band (6.25 → 6.5);
- a mean ending in .75 goes up to the next whole band (6.75 → 7.0);
- below .25, it goes down (6.125 → 6.0).

Frequently asked questions
What happens if my mean is 6.25?
It rounds up to 6.5. Under the IELTS rule, .25 goes up to the next half band and .75 to the next whole band.
Is the calculator's result official?
No. The Listening and Reading tables are approximate, because the conversion varies slightly between test versions.
