Do not be afraid of art questions: you do not need to be an expert. An honest answer ("not as much as I'd like to be") and one example from Uzbek applied art (suzani, ceramics) make the answer your own.

What the examiner asks on this topic

Are you interested in art?

Did you like drawing when you were a child?

Have you ever been to an art gallery?

What kind of art do you like?

Do you think art should be taught at school?

Is traditional art popular in your country?

Model answers (aimed at band 7+)

Are you interested in art?

To be honest, not as much as I'd like to be. I enjoy looking at paintings and photography, but I don't know much about art history, so I usually just go by whether something makes me feel anything.

Have you ever been to an art gallery?

Yes, a few times. The one I remember best is the State Museum of Arts in Tashkent, where they have a collection of old suzani embroidery. I was surprised by how detailed the pieces were: each one must have taken months to make.

Do you think art should be taught at school?

Definitely. Not every child will become an artist, but art teaches you to observe carefully and to express ideas without words. It's also one of the few subjects where there isn't a single right answer, which is a nice break from exams.

Is traditional art popular in your country?

It's had a real comeback. Ten years ago young people mostly saw ceramics and embroidery as something for their grandparents, but now suzani patterns appear on clothes, phone cases and modern interiors, and some young designers are building whole brands around them.

How to answer

  • If your interest is limited, say so honestly and well: "not as much as I'd like to be".
  • Modals of deduction like "must have taken months" help your grammar score.
  • Explain suzani or ceramics in English.
  • For the school question, give two benefits and add a personal view.
