A festival card is the best chance to introduce Uzbekistan. Navruz is an ideal choice: a fixed date, plenty of customs and something new for the examiner. Explain every Uzbek word in English and tell the process in order.

Model answer (about 2 minutes)
The festival I'd like to talk about is Navruz, which is probably the most important celebration in Uzbekistan. It falls on the twenty-first of March, the spring equinox, and it's essentially a new year festival that celebrates the return of spring.
The preparations start days before. Families give their houses a thorough spring clean, because the idea is to start the new year fresh, and people try to settle any arguments or debts so they don't carry them into the new year.
The heart of the festival, for me, is the sumalak night. Women in the neighbourhood gather around an enormous pot and stir sprouted wheat for something like twelve hours, singing and telling stories, and young people often join in. In the morning the sumalak is shared with everyone. There's also green samsa, pastries filled with fresh spring herbs, which you only really eat at this time of year.
On the day itself, there are concerts and fairs in every city, and people visit older relatives to wish them a good year.
I think it's important because it's one of the few traditions that brings everyone together, whatever their age or background. It's thousands of years old, it's even recognised by UNESCO, and it reminds people that however busy life gets, spring always comes back.

Part 3: follow-up discussion questions
Why are traditional festivals important?
They give people a shared rhythm and a sense of belonging. When everyone is busy with their own lives, a festival is one of the few moments when a whole neighbourhood, or even a whole country, does the same thing at the same time.
Are festivals becoming too commercial?
To some extent, yes. Shops and brands use festivals to sell more, and some celebrations now feel like shopping events. But I don't think that destroys the meaning, as long as the family traditions survive alongside it.
How do young people in your country celebrate traditional festivals?
Should schools teach children about other countries' festivals?
