В cue card о достижении хорошо работают скромность и конкретные цифры: сколько времени, сколько усилий, какой результат. Не обязательно большое достижение: маленькое, но лично важное тоже отличный выбор.

Пример ответа (около 2 минут)

The achievement I'm proudest of is finishing a half marathon, which is twenty-one kilometres, at the Tashkent marathon last spring.

That might not sound like much to experienced runners, but six months before the race I couldn't run two kilometres without stopping. A friend signed up and dared me to do it too, and somehow I agreed.

I trained for about four months, following a plan from a running app. Because of my lectures, most of my runs were at five in the morning, which was really hard in winter. The worst moment came in the second month, when I hurt my knee and had to stop for three weeks. I honestly thought about giving up, but I went to a sports doctor, did the exercises he gave me, and slowly built back up.

On the day itself, the last three kilometres were the hardest thing I've ever done physically. My legs felt like stone, but people along the road were cheering, and I finished in just under two and a half hours.

I'm proud of it not because of the time, which was pretty slow, but because of the discipline it took. It proved to me that I can stick to something difficult for months, and I think that's helped me with my studies too.

Как отвечать

  • Сравните с прежним состоянием: «six months before, I couldn't...».
  • Момент трудности делает историю интересной: травма, сомнение, поворот.
  • Цифры дают точность: дистанция, время, месяцы.
  • Гордитесь не результатом, а качеством: «because of the discipline it took».

Part 3: вопросы для обсуждения

Is it important to celebrate small achievements?

Yes, I think so, especially for students. Big goals take years, and if you only feel good at the very end, it's easy to lose motivation along the way. Small celebrations keep you going.

Do schools focus too much on academic achievement?

To some extent. Grades matter, but schools rarely recognise things like teamwork, sport or helping others, even though employers often value those skills just as much.

Why do some people achieve more than others?

Should achievements be rewarded with money?
