Questions about phones, the internet and apps come up in almost every test. The topic also leads into Part 3 questions about how technology is changing society.

What the examiner asks on this topic

How often do you use your phone?

What do you mainly use the internet for?

Which app do you use the most?

Do you think you spend too much time online?

What was the first phone you had?

Would you find it hard to live without your phone?

Model answers (aimed at band 7+)

How often do you use your phone?

Honestly, more than I'd like to admit. I check it first thing in the morning, and I use it all day for messages, maps and study materials. I'd guess it's around five or six hours a day in total.

Which app do you use the most?

Telegram, without a doubt. In Uzbekistan almost everything happens there: university announcements, group chats, news channels, even ordering food. It's hard to imagine my day without it.

Do you think you spend too much time online?

Probably, yes. I've noticed that I sometimes pick up my phone without any reason, just out of habit. Recently I've started turning off notifications in the evenings, and it's helped a little.

Would you find it hard to live without your phone?

For a day or two, it'd actually be quite relaxing. But for longer it would be really inconvenient, because so many everyday things, like paying for things and getting around, depend on it now.
